Madison River Fishing Tips
A world-famous trout stream cutting through amazing scenery
This Madison, also known as the “fifty mile riffle,” originates in Yellowstone National Park at 8,000 feet elevation.
It flows through the Park into Hebgen Lake, then into Earthquake Lake. After an additional fifty miles of riffles cradled between 10,000-foot peaks of the Madison Range and the Gravelly Range, it flows into Ennis Lake. In Three Forks, Montana, it joins with the Gallatin and Jefferson Rivers to become the Missouri.
The Madison is a world renowned fishery offering Browns, Rainbows, and Mountain Whitefish. It offers very diverse fishing experiences from inside the boundaries of Yellowstone National Park, where you only can walk/wade fish, to the waters around Ennis, Montana, which is experienced by drift boat or walk/wade.
