Kids Program

Our Outdoor Youth Adventures program is designed for young people (ages 4-18)  to have fun while developing an appreciation for nature and their self-confidence through a wide variety of outdoor recreation activities. These experiences are geared to entertain and challenge the interests of varying age groups. When you combine the experiences we offer with our kind, energetic and knowledgeable staff, the kids can't help but have fun and look at life from a different perspective. The confidence they gain with their peers outdoors is something they can take with them wherever they go.

Frequently Asked Questions

What age does my child have to be to participate?
The absolute minimum age of children participating in our program is 4 years old.  Younger children may participate in any of the activities we offer, but only if accompanied by an adult each day.

How long does the program last each day?
The program is scheduled from 9am-12pm and 1pm-5pm every weekday with family events scheduled Saturdays for mid-morning and mid-afternoon.

What activities will my kids be able to participate in?
Each day we offer a variety of activities based specifically on the participating child's interest and age!

Ages 4-11:  Pony (ages 5 & under) and horse rides, low and high ropes courses, scavenger hunts, archery, horseshoe competitions, nature exploration activities, field games, art projects, canoeing, trip to a waterfall, small hikes & rodeo games

Ages 12-18: While many teens participate in activities with their parents and are welcome to join anything we offer to our younger guests, Lone Mountain Ranch also has developed a teen-only activities that includes overnight backpacking trips to develop hard and soft backcountry skills, geocaching, animal tracking, slack-line competitions, nature exploration activities focused on local flora and fauna and all day hikes to one of the area's many beautiful vistas.

When do the kids eat?
To ensure everyone has enough energy and never goes hungry, mid-morning and afternoon snacks are available. We’ll also eat a healthy lunch together as a group lunch around noon.

Are there any evening programs for kids?
Evening meals are planned twice a week just for youth from 6pm-8pm so parents can enjoy a dinner all to themselves.  In addition, the ranch offers weekly evening presentations including anything from Astronomy to Lewis and Clark, board-game night and movie night.

If we want to go on the Yellowstone Guided Tour as a family, can my child miss the program for a day?
The Outdoor Youth Adventure program is designed for families to participate in as little or as much as they like.  Taking your child away for a day may be difficult after they’ve made friends with other participants but is perfectly fine and not all uncommon.

Is there anything I would be able to do with my kids as part of the program?
Not only do we welcome family and parents to join our youth activities but encourage it! Many of our afternoon activities are planned specifically to incorporate families having fun together.Kids love to canoe with their parents, have them along on our hikes and especially participate on the high ropes course.

Will my kids be safe in the program on their own?
Safety is of paramount importance to us at Lone Mountain Ranch.  Counselors each have training in CPR, First Aid, Wilderness Medicine and are additionally trained in each activity the children participate in.  Whether on or off ranch, we are always able to call emergency services if necessary.
